Philabundance

"Pleas for Trees."

PHS lists their mission statement as, “[PHS] connects people with horitculture, and together we create beautiful, healthy and sustainable communities.” Some of the opportunities PHS provides includes planting 40,000 bulbs, planting trees in different communities, as well as helping community gardens prepare as winter approaches. We are excited to improve our surrounding communities through horticulture beautification as we move forward with our project!

“We seek to drive hunger from our communities today and end hunger forever.”

Our group is interested in partnering with Philabundance to assist in eliminating hunger in communities throughout the United States, but in Philadelphia, specifically. Philabundance was founded by an idealist named Pamela Rainey Lawler who saw perfectly good food going to waste, and at the same time, saw people going hungry. This organization operates predominantly in PA and NJ, collecting and distributing food to those in need. Philabundance serves over 90,000 people on a weekly basis. Our goal is to volunteer our time to this amazing organization, making food available to everyone who faces hunger in Philadelphia, and beyond. Additionally, we will promote our project on social media to share the work that Philabundance engages in and will set up a webpage to collect donations. All donations, monetary or food, will be donated to Philabundance in an effort to “drive hunger from our communities today, and end hunger forever.”

Alexandra Mendes

I am a Senior Finance major, Marketing minor in the Fox School of Business at Temple University. I am excited to work with Philabundance to assist in the fight against hunger. Living in one of the country’s largest cities has exposed me to those who live without homes and without food every day. Seeing that this is common throughout Philadelphia has pushed me to make a change. By working with Philabundance, I hope to join this organization in ending hunger forever.

Sasha Warfield

I am a Junior Marketing major in the Fox School of Business at Temple University. I want to work with Philabundance because I believe no one should have to suffer from hunger. Fighting against hunger is an issue I’m passionate about because I see it frequently here in Philadelphia. By working with Philabundance, I want to make a difference in my community.

Yuna Shu

I am a Junior Financial Planning major and Entrepreneurship major in the Fox School of Business at Temple University. When I walk nearby campus every day, it is frequent to see people who suffer from hunger. Most of them do not have a place to stay, and I feel like I definitely need to at least do something for them! I used to live in LA, but when I came to Philadelphia for college, I realized more people need help and to be taken care of. Thus, by working with Philabundance, I hope I can make a difference in this community.

Oyinlola Atinsola

I am a Junior Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management major in Temple University Fox School of Business. I moved from Nigeria to Philadelphia for school in 2015, and although I love Temple University and the Philadelphia area, it breaks my heart walking around sometimes and seeing homeless people without shelter and food begging, or wandering around. I have a heart to see the world changed by every person, and what better way to start this change than helping fight against hunger that faces the community I live in?

Andrew Asmas

I am a Senior Marketing major, Supply Chain Logistics and Management Information Systems minors in the Fox School of Business at Temple University. My motivation to work with Philabundance comes directly from the source, interacting with the Philadelphia community day in and day out, during my commutes between class and work. Throughout my stay in the city I have made my own attempts at combating hunger for those in need, whether it be volunteering at a kitchen or buying food for the homeless I cross paths with. By working with Philabundance, my small attempts can be made larger and more effective to the widespread problem at hand.
