There is a powerful story that truly inspires me, a story that creates hope within me. This is known as the star fish story. During a hot summer day after huge waves washed thousands and thousands of star fish up on shore. The star fish slowly died from the heat of the sun, but one boy who walked on the shore saw this. The little boy then picked up one star fish and tossed it back into the ocean, then another, and another. An elderly gentleman saw this and came to the boy and
said “What are you doing? There’s thousands of them, you can’t save them all!???” All the little boy did was picked up another starfish and replied “Well it meant everything to this one” Picked up another and said “It meant everything to this one too, I save this star fish, and this one.” The boy changed lives one by one by one. I truly believe PAWS for People is doing the same exact thing with lives be it human or pets.
I am proud to say that our De-Stress Event gave me and my team a chance to change lives as well. There were many challenges we faced. Planning and coordination was a huge obstacle we faced. On the table day, especially in the morning I had many doubts. Will we be able to contribute? Will this all fall apart for nothing? To say the least the morning was extremely slow, but the presence of my team gave me hope and when the volunteers from PAWS for People came everything changed.
Momentum picked up so much none of us could keep up. There were three dogs and the volunteers were so helpful and kind. Students and professors started to come up. Donations increased which gave me hope that this was worth it. I had so much fun that I skipped all my classes. After everything, what truly impacted me the most was the smiles on everyone’s face.
The smile of students and professors as they came and enjoyed their time with the pets and the presence of everyone. This was when I realized, like the little boy saving star fish, we had impacted lives even at the slightest degree. At the end of the day we were able to hit our goals and have a tremendous donation for PAWS for People. I too realized, what me and my team have accomplished. This project not only gave me skill sets I can use in my future, it also bonded me with my team. I don’t think of them as just classmates, I think of them as close friends. Please support PAWS for People and you can change lives one at a time.
