As a student of higher education, I feel grateful for the challenges, the happy moments, and the pride that has come with my many, many years in school. Then I realize, not every child has had the same opportunities as I.
That is why I chose to join with Jumpstart to help provide necessary resources young students need to thrive.
In 2002, I saw my mother take a new position as a social studies teacher to 2nd graders at a charter school in Detroit. In the weeks before school started, she spent countless hours, money, and smiles setting up her classroom. She specifically spent extra effort creating a mini library in her class to let the kids have additional reading time. As the school year went on, she saw that her students became better readers each day. The importance of each book can make that much of a difference.
Each child, whether they go to school in the suburbs or the inner city, should have the same resources and opportunities to advance their learning.
Please follow my team and I as we begin our journey to work for the children!
