Philadelphia's Blooming

April 19, 2017

Hello everyone!

My name is Aurelio Pacilli and I am a Junior Entrepreneurship major at Temple University, participating in the 10-10-10 marketing project. Our group -Mingjia You, Carina Ayesh, Salima Bradley, Brian Wong, and myself- is donating its time, as volunteers, to PHS’s many events, including the Philadelphia Flower Show (Holland themed, for 2017). Our hands will be welcomingly dirtied as we put forth our best green thumbs to further raise awareness, understanding, and utility of PHS’s mission.

From a personal standpoint, my excitement comes from the fact that PHS has been a leader in educating individuals and organizations in sustainable practices, along with innovations in planting, growing, and preservation techniques. That is only where the fun starts! I have taken in a handful of PHS workshops too, such as- Themed flower arranging (using pumpkins and seasonal flowers to make Thanksgiving centerpieces, winter bulb preservation classes, wreath making with succulent flowers, etc...). The beauty of these workshops is that they can be taken as a nice 2 hour vacation from our normally busy and stress filled lives or they could be the starting point for your future endeavors, it’s completely your choice. If it were not for PHS, my passion for urban self-sustainability would be, at best, nothing more than a hobby.

The Temple University/PHS 10-10-10 Project team is super excited to be participating and lending helping hands to the amazing Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s annual event, “The Philadelphia Flower Show-Holland.” The 2017 installment of The Philadelphia Flower Show will introduce new plant varieties, garden and design concepts, organic/sustainable practices, plus new and exciting methods for using plant materials as a substitute for traditional non-organic materials. Not to be missed, the Philadelphia Flower show is without doubt one of the most beautiful, useful, and inspiring exhibitions that comes through our fair City of Brotherly .

Please visit the PHS website, which is chock full of great content!

Of course, we love volunteers and so should you! Come volunteer with us to make Philadelphia even more beautiful!
