On March 6th, 2017, a house fire occurred in Montgomery County, destroying two homes and affecting 4 people, as well as 3 “dogs” – one of which was Vern the prairie dog. Fortunately, everyone, including the animals, made it out of the home safely and insurance was able to cover certain costs associated with the families’ homes after the fire. What wasn’t as certain was how the families would pay for expenses associated with their animals including pet food and supplies, specifically timothy hay for Vern. That’s where Red Paw stepped in. After learning of the fire and the animals affected by the fire, Red Paw offered support and supplies for the animals which was graciously accepted by the families. As the families try to get back on their feet after losing almost everything in the fire, they can have a piece of mind knowing that their pets are cared for, relieving the burden of additional expenses they would have incurred had it not been for Red Paw. The work Red Paw does for ALL animals affected by a natural disaster is irreplaceable, as there is no other organization that does the work Red Paw does.
